Academic Research
Basic research consists of theoretical and practical works regarding security policies on a yearly basis, purporting to enhance medium-term policy facilitation as well as specialized education and security research. In 2005, the main research themes were as follows:
Security Policy Division

- Efficient Management of Military Organization and Budget -   
· Research on military reform legislation: concentrating on French military reform   
· Research on power structure to achieve a more efficient National Security   
· Security implications and responding strategies regarding China's rapid emergence   
· Research on "phantom orders" within the military logistic system   
· Securing military budget in terms of the rapidly aging population
· Regional Security Issues; ROK Security Conception and Development
· Assessment of world security environment   
· Implications of Northeast Asia's regionalism and the formation of its security discourse body   
· Study on the direction of Japanese security policy changes in reference to Japan's constitutiona amendment discussion
· NATO's transition and its resulting implications on the ROK-U.S. alliance   
· The U.S.'s flexible strategies to sustain hegemony in terms of democratic expansion policy

North Korean Affairs Division
- North Korea's Current Situation and the ROK's Security Policies -   
· The increasing correlation between security policy and South-North Korean economic exchange   
· Analysis of the ROK's military forces' perception regarding its military superiority against North Korea's forces
· Trends of governing pattern across Kim Jung-Il's ten-year reign and their prospect

· Study on cost estimation methods pertaining to each acquisition phase in various defense R&D projects
· Application of ACTD in the process of defense R&D development
· Improvement of information security supervision regarding defense digitization projects
· Study on the optimal allocation model of SAM-X
· Study for the support of flight pass information using GIS
· Study to enhance confidence levels of defense modeling simulation
Defense Resource Management Division
